Job Summary:
We are seeking a qualified and dedicated Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) Teacher to support students in a self-contained classroom at an elementary school in Birmingham, AL. The DHH Teacher will work collaboratively with a paraprofessional and district staff to provide specialized instruction tailored to the needs of students with hearing impairments.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide direct instruction and support to elementary students in a self-contained classroom setting.
- Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) based on students’ specific needs and goals.
- Utilize a variety of instructional techniques, including sign language, to facilitate learning and communication.
- Collaborate with paraprofessionals, school staff, and parents to ensure students are receiving appropriate accommodations and support.
- Monitor and assess student progress, making adjustments to instructional strategies as needed.
- Create a positive and inclusive classroom environment that fosters student engagement and learning.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited college or university.
- Valid Alabama Professional Teaching Certificate.
- Must meet Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) federal and state requirements or demonstrate a willingness to meet these requirements.
- Experience working with Deaf and Hard of Hearing students is preferred.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including proficiency in sign language.
Caseload:
- One elementary school with a self-contained class.
- Paraprofessional and district staff support provided.
