Hours: Full-Time, 37.5 hours/week
Hourly Rate: $34+
Position Type: Onsite

Job Summary:
We are seeking a qualified and dedicated Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) Teacher to support students in a self-contained classroom at an elementary school in Birmingham, AL. The DHH Teacher will work collaboratively with a paraprofessional and district staff to provide specialized instruction tailored to the needs of students with hearing impairments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct instruction and support to elementary students in a self-contained classroom setting.
  • Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) based on students’ specific needs and goals.
  • Utilize a variety of instructional techniques, including sign language, to facilitate learning and communication.
  • Collaborate with paraprofessionals, school staff, and parents to ensure students are receiving appropriate accommodations and support.
  • Monitor and assess student progress, making adjustments to instructional strategies as needed.
  • Create a positive and inclusive classroom environment that fosters student engagement and learning.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited college or university.
  • Valid Alabama Professional Teaching Certificate.
  • Must meet Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) federal and state requirements or demonstrate a willingness to meet these requirements.
  • Experience working with Deaf and Hard of Hearing students is preferred.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including proficiency in sign language.

Caseload:

  • One elementary school with a self-contained class.
  • Paraprofessional and district staff support provided.
