Key Responsibilities
As a Special Education Teacher, your key responsibilities will include:

  • Developing and implementing Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) for students, ensuring they meet both academic and behavioral goals.
  • Providing direct instruction to students in one-on-one or small group settings, differentiating lessons to accommodate various learning styles and abilities.
  • Collaborating with general education teachers, specialists, and parents to ensure that students receive the necessary supports and modifications to thrive.
  • Monitoring student progress and adjusting teaching methods and materials based on assessment data and feedback.
  • Managing classroom behavior in a positive and structured way, ensuring an effective learning environment.
  • Attending IEP meetings, parent-teacher conferences, and staff meetings, actively participating in discussions about student progress and needed accommodations.
  • Maintaining accurate records of student performance, IEP progress, and any communications with parents or other staff members.
  • Ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal regulations related to special education.
  • Providing emotional and social support to help students develop critical life skills.

Qualifications
To be considered for this position, you must meet the following requirements:

  • Required: A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Special Education (or a related field).
  • Required: A valid Special Education certification for the state of Colorado.
  • Preferred: Experience working with students with special needs in a school-based setting.
  • Preferred: Familiarity with IEP development and educational assessments.
  • Required: Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Required: Ability to collaborate effectively with staff, students, and families.
