K-12 School District Seeking Orientation and Mobility Specialist (O&M)

Blazer Jobs is seeking a dedicated Orientation and Mobility Specialist for a full-time position in a school district in Anchorage, Alaska. This role involves working closely with visually impaired students, including those who are blind or have low vision, to develop independent navigation and travel skills.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assess students' mobility needs and create individualized training plans.
• Teach techniques for safe movement in various environments, including school, home, and community settings.
• Collaborate with teachers, families, and support staff to ensure students' success.
• Adapt instructional methods to accommodate individual needs and learning styles.
• Maintain accurate records and progress reports in compliance with school and state regulations.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Orientation and Mobility or a related field.
• Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist (COMS) credential preferred.
• One year of relevant experience in a school setting required.
• Knowledge of assistive technology and mobility devices for visually impaired students.
