Key Responsibilities
As a Special Education Teacher, your role will include:
- Developing and implementing Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) tailored to the needs of students, focusing on both academic and behavioral goals.
- Delivering specialized instruction to students in small group or one-on-one settings, adjusting lessons to meet the unique learning styles of each child.
- Collaborating with general education teachers, school staff, and families to ensure each student receives the appropriate support and accommodations.
- Monitoring student progress and making necessary adjustments to instructional techniques and materials based on ongoing assessments.
- Managing classroom behavior and fostering a positive learning environment conducive to both academic and personal growth.
- Attending IEP meetings, parent-teacher conferences, and staff meetings, providing input on student progress and developing strategies for improvement.
- Maintaining accurate records of student performance, behavior, IEP goals, and communications with parents and school staff.
- Ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations regarding special education services.
- Supporting students in developing social-emotional skills and promoting a sense of confidence and independence.
Qualifications
To be considered for this role, candidates must meet the following criteria:
- Required: A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Special Education (or a related field).
- Required: A valid Special Education certification for the state of New Mexico.
- Preferred: Experience working with students with special needs, particularly in a school-based setting.
- Preferred: Knowledge of IEP development and special education law in New Mexico.
- Required: Strong communication and organizational skills, with a focus on collaboration and teamwork.
- Required: Patience, empathy, and the ability to engage and motivate students with diverse learning needs.
