Typical Job Duties:

• Provide sign language interpretation services for students who are deaf or hard of hearing in educational settings.

• Facilitate communication between students, teachers, and other school staff.

• Support students’ academic and social development through effective interpretation.

• Maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards of the profession.

• Participate in IEP meetings as needed.

Education and Licensure Requirements:

• High school diploma or equivalent (required); associate’s or bachelor’s degree in interpreting or related field (preferred).

• Valid Louisiana state certification or registry certification (if applicable).

• Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL).

• Knowledge of educational interpreting standards and practices.
