Job Title: Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI)
Location: Norfolk & Virginia Beach, VA Area
Employment Type: Full-Time
Position Overview:
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) to serve students in the Norfolk and Virginia Beach, VA area. The TVI will provide specialized instruction and services to students with visual impairments, supporting their educational needs across a variety of settings including general education classrooms, resource rooms, and home-based environments.
The ideal candidate will have experience working with students from preschool through high school and will be skilled in adapting curriculum materials, providing assistive technology support, and collaborating with families and multidisciplinary teams.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide direct instruction to students with visual impairments in academic and functional areas.
  • Adapt and modify classroom materials to accommodate students’ visual needs.
  • Conduct assessments to determine students’ eligibility and educational needs related to visual impairments.
  • Develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) in collaboration with IEP teams.
  • Provide orientation and mobility training support in conjunction with certified specialists.
  • Instruct students in the use of assistive technology and Braille (as needed).
  • Consult and collaborate with general and special education teachers, related service providers, and families.
  • Monitor student progress and maintain accurate records and documentation.
  • Advocate for students’ access to inclusive educational experiences.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Education of the Visually Impaired or a related field.
  • Current or eligible for Virginia teaching licensure with endorsement in Visual Impairments.
  • Proficiency in Braille, Nemeth Code, and assistive technology for the visually impaired.
  • Experience working in a K-12 educational setting preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage a flexible caseload.
