Description:
A collaborative and student-focused school district in Houston, TX is seeking a certified Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) for the 2025–2026 school year. This full-time, school-based position offers the opportunity to support students with visual impairments in accessing the curriculum and achieving educational success across K–12 settings.
The TVI will serve as an integral member of the special education team, providing direct instruction, consultation, and support to students, families, and staff.
Responsibilities:
Provide direct instruction to students with visual impairments in areas such as Braille, orientation and mobility, assistive technology, and compensatory skills
Conduct functional vision and learning media assessments
Develop and implement Individualized Education Program (IEP) goals and accommodations
Collaborate with general education teachers, special education staff, related service providers, and families
Participate in IEP meetings, team planning, and professional development
Consult with staff to ensure classroom materials and environments are accessible
Provide training and support for staff and families on strategies and tools to support students
Monitor and document student progress toward IEP goals
Requirements:
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Education of the Visually Impaired or related field
Valid Texas Teacher of the Visually Impaired Certification (or eligibility to obtain)
Previous experience working with students with visual impairments preferred
Strong knowledge of assistive technology, Braille instruction, and accessibility strategies
Excellent collaboration, communication, and organizational skills
