Job Summary:
We are seeking a qualified and dedicated Sign Language Interpreter (SLI) to join our educational team in Kansas City, KS. The SLI will facilitate effective communication between students who are deaf or hard of hearing and their hearing peers, teachers, and staff within the school environment. This role is essential in promoting an inclusive educational experience for all students.
Key Responsibilities:
Interpretation Services: Provide accurate and impartial interpretation of classroom instruction, discussions, and school activities using American Sign Language (ASL) and other appropriate communication methods.
Student Support: Assist in conveying educational material and facilitating communication to support the academic and social development of students who are deaf or hard of hearing.
Collaboration: Work closely with teachers, support staff, and parents to understand and meet the individual communication needs of students.
Confidentiality: Maintain strict confidentiality regarding student information and adhere to professional ethical standards.
Professional Development: Stay current with developments in the field of sign language interpretation and participate in ongoing training as required.
Qualifications:
Experience: Proven experience interpreting in K-12 educational settings is preferred.
Skills: High proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and familiarity with educational terminology.
Communication: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to effectively interact with students, staff, and parents.
Additional Requirements:
Ability to pass a background check and meet any additional state or district-specific requirements.
Willingness to participate in school meetings, events, and professional development sessions as needed.
