Qualifications:

Applicants must meet the following local and state requirements to apply:

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Certifications:
  • Valid certification as a Sign Language Interpreter (e.g., NIC, EIPA, or RID).
  • Must meet Nebraska state requirements for Sign Language Interpreters.
  • Experience: Previous experience working as a Sign Language Interpreter in educational settings is preferred.
  • Background Check: Must be able to pass state and local background checks.
  • Skills: Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and the ability to interpret spoken language into sign language and vice versa.

    Responsibilities:

    As a Sign Language Interpreter, your key responsibilities will include:

    • Interpreting classroom lectures, lessons, and activities for students who are deaf or hard of hearing.
    • Providing clear and accurate interpretation of spoken language into American Sign Language (ASL) and vice versa.
    • Assisting students in communication with teachers, peers, and staff throughout the school day.
    • Collaborating with educators to ensure students' educational needs are met.
    • Supporting students in social and extracurricular activities, ensuring effective communication.
    • Maintaining confidentiality and professional boundaries with students and staff.
