Blazer Jobs is seeking a skilled Sign Language Interpreter (SLI) to support students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing in a middle school and elementary setting. This full-time position involves facilitating communication and supporting students in academic and social settings.
Job Responsibilities
- Interpret classroom instruction and discussions using ASL
- Adapt communication methods to match students’ needs (e.g., whiteboard drawings, visual aids)
- Assist with language development, tutoring, and communication breakdowns
- Encourage student independence and teach self-advocacy skills
- Collaborate with the DHH team and classroom teachers, providing updates and observations
- Support students in understanding and completing classroom tasks
Qualifications
- Active interpreter license or certification (NIC, RID, or equivalent preferred)
- Experience working with Deaf/Hard of Hearing students in an educational setting
- Strong collaboration and communication skills
- Ability to adapt interpreting methods based on student needs
