Blazer Jobs is actively interviewing experienced School Sign Language Interpreters (SLIs) for a full-time role with school districts in the Saint Paul, MN area. We are seeking dedicated professionals to support students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing by facilitating communication in the classroom.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide interpretation of spoken language into American Sign Language (ASL) for students and faculty.
- Facilitate communication between Deaf or Hard of Hearing students and teachers, staff, and peers.
- Support students during instructional time, meetings, and extracurricular activities.
- Collaborate with teachers and educational staff to ensure effective communication and accommodations.
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to professional ethical standards in all interactions.
- Assist in the development of IEPs (Individualized Education Programs) and contribute to student progress monitoring.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent; a degree or certification in American Sign Language (ASL) or related field is preferred.
- Experience as a Sign Language Interpreter, preferably in an educational setting.
- Strong proficiency in ASL and knowledge of Deaf culture.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with teachers, staff, and students.
- Certification from the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) or National Association of the Deaf (NAD) is a plus.
