Job Summary
We are seeking a qualified and dedicated Sign Language Interpreter (SLI) to support students who are deaf or hard of hearing in Bellevue, WA. The SLI will provide essential interpretation services to facilitate communication between students, teachers, and school staff, ensuring an inclusive and accessible learning environment. Key Responsibilities
- Provide accurate and impartial American Sign Language (ASL) interpretation in classroom settings, school activities, and events.
- Support students in understanding lessons, discussions, and instructions from teachers and peers.
- Collaborate with teachers, special education staff, and parents to address student communication needs.
- Adhere to ethical standards of interpreting and maintain confidentiality at all times.
- Assist in fostering an inclusive learning environment that supports student engagement and success.
- Participate in Individualized Education Plan (IEP) meetings to provide input on student communication accommodations.
- Stay updated on best practices in educational interpreting through professional development.
Qualifications
- Valid Washington State Educational Interpreter Certificate or equivalent.
- Minimum EIPA score of 4.0 (preferred) or RID/NIC certification.
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and understanding of deaf culture.
- Previous experience interpreting in a K-12 educational setting (preferred).
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively with students, teachers, and school staff.
