Position Overview: As a Special Education teacher in Flint, MI, you will play a pivotal role in providing high-quality instruction and support to students with diverse learning needs. You will collaborate with students, families, and fellow educators to develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) that meet the unique academic, social, and emotional needs of each student. Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with special needs, in accordance with federal and state regulations
  • Provide direct instruction and support to students with disabilities in a variety of academic subjects and skill areas, including reading, writing, math, and social skills
  • Adapt instructional materials and teaching strategies to accommodate students' diverse learning styles, abilities, and needs
  • Utilize evidence-based practices and interventions to address academic, behavioral, and social-emotional challenges and promote student growth and success
  • Collaborate with general education teachers, support staff, and related service providers to ensure that students with disabilities have access to the general education curriculum and appropriate accommodations and modifications
  • Monitor student progress, collect data on academic and behavioral goals, and adjust instruction and interventions as needed to facilitate student achievement
  • Communicate regularly with parents and caregivers to provide updates on student progress, discuss concerns, and solicit input on educational goals and strategies
  • Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings, IEP meetings, and other collaborative efforts to develop and review students' education plans and make data-driven decisions about instructional programming and support services
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of student progress, attendance, and behavior in compliance with federal and state guidelines

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in Special Education or a related field
  • Valid Michigan teaching license with Special Education endorsement
  • Minimum of one year of experience working as a Special Education teacher in a school or educational setting
  • Knowledge of federal and state laws and regulations governing special education, including the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA)
  • Strong instructional and classroom management skills
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving abilities
  • Commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion in education
  • Flexibility, adaptability, and a passion for supporting students with diverse learning needs
