We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Special Education Teacher to join our team in Westbrook, CT. The ideal candidate will work with students in an inclusive, nurturing environment, providing individualized instruction, behavioral interventions, and accommodations to support the diverse learning needs of students. This role is integral in ensuring all students receive the support they need to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.


Responsibilities:

  • Develop, implement, and adapt individualized education programs (IEPs) for students with disabilities.
  • Provide direct instruction, support, and accommodations to students with a range of disabilities (e.g., learning disabilities, emotional/behavioral disabilities, autism spectrum disorders).
  • Collaborate with general education teachers and related service providers (e.g., speech therapists, occupational therapists) to support student success.
  • Monitor and track student progress, adjusting instructional strategies to meet evolving needs.
  • Participate in IEP meetings and advocate for the best interests of students.
  • Manage classroom behavior effectively, utilizing positive behavior intervention strategies.
  • Foster an inclusive and supportive classroom environment that encourages student independence and confidence.
  • Communicate regularly with parents, guardians, and staff regarding student progress, challenges, and accomplishments.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Special Education or related field.
  • Connecticut State Certification in Special Education (K-12 or specific grade level).
  • Experience working with students in elementary and/or middle school is preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of IEP development and implementation.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues, students, and families.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks.
  • Passion for working with students with disabilities and supporting their academic and personal growth.
