Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist (COMS) | Plano, Texas

Step into a rewarding educational setting as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist supporting students with visual impairments for the 2026-2027 school year. In this full-time, on-site contract role, you'll deliver essential orientation and mobility services across several schools, fostering independence and confidence in students as they navigate both school and home environments.

Key Qualifications and Experience:

• Current, active Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist (COMS) license required
• Experience working with children and adolescents with visual impairments is highly preferred
• Strong communication skills for effective collaboration with students, families, and school staff
• Flexible and organized mindset to work across multiple campuses in an itinerant capacity

Primary Responsibilities:

• Provide direct orientation and mobility instruction to a caseload of approximately 1215 students ranging in age and level of need, as well as one infant served through Early Childhood Intervention (ECI)
• Develop and implement individualized plans to teach safe, effective travel skills in diverse settings including schools, home, and community environments
• Collaborate with educators, therapists, and families to ensure comprehensive support for each students goals
• Conduct evaluations and assessments to monitor student progress and adapt techniques as needed
• Maintain detailed documentation on services, progress, and outcomes for each student
