Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist (COMS) | Richmond Hill, Georgia

Your expertise will guide individualized instruction tailored to students specific needs, and youll have the autonomy to create your own schedule that fits both orientation and mobility requirements and student IEPs.

Key Qualifications:

• Certification as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist (COMS) through ACVREP
• Valid GaPSC Teaching Certificate
• Experience supporting VI students within a school setting preferred
• Familiarity with diverse age groups, from elementary through high school
• Ability to travel between various school sites as needed
• Strong collaboration and communication skills
• Commitment to fostering student confidence and independence

Primary Responsibilities:

• Assess students orientation and mobility skills and craft individualized instructional plans
• Provide direct instruction to students at several school sites, focusing on practical, real-world skills
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop and implement student IEPs
• Consult regularly with teachers, parents, and other specialists to ensure comprehensive student support
• Maintain accurate, detailed records and progress reports
• Foster a safe and supportive learning environment
