Orientation and Mobility Specialist in Rincon, GA

Make a meaningful impact this school year supporting students with visual impairments as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist. This contract role runs from late July through May, offering a unique opportunity to collaborate with learners in elementary through high school grades across multiple school sites.

Bring your expertise to create and implement individualized O&M programs while enjoying the autonomy to craft a schedule that meets both student and program needs. Work closely with students, families, and educational teams to support students as they develop greater confidence and independence in their school environments.

Qualifications:

• Current COMS certification through the Academy for Certification of Vision Rehabilitation & Education Professionals (ACVREP)
• Valid Georgia Professional Standards Commission (GaPSC) Teaching Certificate
• Background supporting students with visual impairments (VI), ideally across age groups
• Strong collaboration and communication skills for working with diverse teams and families
• Ability to design and track progress on goals outlined in each students IEP

Primary Responsibilities:

• Deliver direct instruction to students with VI in grades 2 through high school, onsite at assigned schools
• Assess student abilities and develop tailored orientation and mobility plans
• Monitor progress, update IEP documentation, and provide ongoing support aligned with best practices
• Consult with special education staff, parents, and other related specialists
• Maintain accurate records and ensure compliance with district and state O&M standards
• Travel between school sites as needed
