Hourly Pay: Negotiable Based on Experience

Position Overview:
We are seeking a qualified Orientation & Mobility Specialist (O&M) to provide direct services to K–12 students with visual impairments across school sites in Sarasota, FL for the 2025–2026 academic year. The O&M Specialist will help students develop the skills necessary to navigate school, home, and community environments safely and independently.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct functional vision assessments and orientation and mobility evaluations

  • Develop and implement individualized O&M instructional programs

  • Provide direct instruction in orientation techniques, cane usage, street crossings, public transportation navigation, and environmental awareness

  • Collaborate with teachers of the visually impaired (TVIs), general education staff, special educators, and families to support IEP goals

  • Participate in IEP meetings and provide input on student progress, goals, and recommended services

  • Maintain detailed and accurate documentation of services and student progress

  • Travel between multiple school sites to deliver services as needed

  • Stay current on best practices and assistive technology relevant to orientation and mobility training

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Orientation & Mobility or related field

  • Certification through ACVREP (Academy for Certification of Vision Rehabilitation and Education Professionals)

  • Experience working with children and youth with visual impairments in educational settings preferred

  • Strong knowledge of instructional techniques for O&M and understanding of relevant federal and state education laws

  • Excellent communication, documentation, and time management skills

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a school environment

  • Must be eligible to work in a public school setting in Illinois
