Job Duties:
As a School-Based Occupational Therapist, you will play a crucial role in helping students access their education and participate fully in school life. Your responsibilities will encompass the full gambit of OT duties, including both direct and indirect services:
- Caseload: Manage a caseload of approximately 55-60 students.
- Evaluations & Assessments: Conduct comprehensive evaluations to identify student needs related to fine motor skills, sensory processing, visual-motor integration, self-care, and academic participation.
- IEP Development & Implementation: Develop and implement individualized education programs (IEPs) with measurable goals, and provide direct therapy services to address student needs within the school environment.
- Direct Services: Provide one-on-one and group therapy sessions to students, focusing on skill development, compensatory strategies, and adaptive techniques.
- Indirect Services/Consultation: Collaborate extensively with teachers, parents, administrators, and other school staff to recommend environmental modifications, adaptive equipment, and strategies to support student success in the classroom and beyond.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate and timely documentation of student progress, therapy sessions, and all related activities in compliance with state and federal regulations.
- Team Collaboration: Participate in IEP meetings, provide professional input, and contribute to a multidisciplinary team approach to student support.
- Problem-Solving: Utilize critical thinking and clinical reasoning to address student challenges and adapt interventions as needed.
Qualifications:
- Active educator license is required.
- Valid California Occupational Therapist (OT) license.
- Master's degree or higher in Occupational Therapy.
- Prior experience in a school or pediatric setting is strongly preferred.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work effectively with diverse student populations, families, and school staff.
Compensation:
The average hourly rate for a contract licensed school-based professional in California is $40-$60 based on experience.
