Sign Language Interpreter

Blazer Jobs is seeking a dedicated Sign Language Interpreter to join our team and provide essential support to students and teachers in schools across Birmingham, AL. This role is vital in fostering an inclusive and productive learning environment where all students can thrive.
Key Responsibilities:
Work closely with teachers to support classroom activities and provide individualized communication access to students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing.
Interpret classroom lessons, instructional activities, and accommodations in American Sign Language (ASL) or other signed communication systems appropriate for the student.
Provide one-on-one or small group assistance to students with academic, social, or behavioral goals.
Monitor and support students in classrooms, hallways, lunchrooms, and on school transportation to ensure effective communication access.
Collaborate with educators, support staff, and families to meet students’ communication needs.
Maintain accurate documentation and records related to interpreting services as directed by the teacher or school administration.
Uphold a safe, respectful, and supportive environment for all students.
Requirements:
Associate degree or completion of a paraprofessional certification program preferred.
Certification as a Sign Language Interpreter (e.g., NIC—National Interpreter Certification) or eligibility to obtain certification is strongly preferred.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively with children in a school or childcare setting.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with teachers, parents, and school staff.
Familiarity with Alabama state guidelines regarding interpreter qualifications for K-12 educational settings.
Experience in education or related fields preferred (minimum one year encouraged).
Physical ability to assist students with mobility or personal care needs when necessary.
