Embark on a rewarding assignment supporting students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing as a sign language interpreter based near Converse, TX. This contract role offers a meaningful opportunity to facilitate communication and access within an inclusive PK-8 educational environment. Youll be working full-time, serving one campus, and helping foster academic and social success for your assigned students.

Key Qualifications:

  • Certification through the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) or Texas Commission for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (BEI I or II under previous system, or Basic under current system) is required.
  • Ability to complete district fingerprinting and background check promptly.
  • Experience interpreting in an educational setting, especially with PK-8 students, is preferred.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and advocacy skills.
  • Comfort working on-site and collaborating with educators, staff, and families.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Provide sign language interpretation between students, staff, and other stakeholders, ensuring clear communication at all times.
  • Support students participation and engagement in classroom and school activities.
  • Accurately convey spoken language and environmental sounds into sign language, adapting to individual student needs and content area.
  • Maintain confidentiality and uphold ethical standards as outlined by professional organizations.
  • Collaborate with teachers, special education teams, and other interpreters as needed.
  • Participate in IEP meetings and contribute as a resource on communication access.

This assignment runs through May 26, 2027, and requires on-site attendance for 37.5 hours per week. Interviews for this opportunity will be held during the last week of October, with positions filled promptly after final selection.
