Sign Language Interpreter in Gary, IN

Key Qualifications & Experience:

• Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and fluent interpreting skills
• Previous experience working with DHH students in an educational environment preferred
• Certification as a Sign Language Interpreter or meeting state qualifications
• Ability to build rapport and facilitate communication between students and staff
• Strong sense of confidentiality, professionalism, and commitment to student success

Role Responsibilities:

• Provide on-site interpretation for a single DHH student throughout the school day (8:00am - 2:00pm), totaling 30 hours per week
• Support classroom instruction, group activities, and individual communications in real time using ASL
• Work collaboratively with teachers, educational staff, and the student to ensure educational goals are met
• Adapt interpreting techniques to meet the students individual needs, supporting both academic and social inclusion
• Maintain up-to-date records on services provided, as needed
