Empower Students: School Sign Language Interpreter Needed in New Orleans, LA

We are seeking a dedicated School Sign Language Interpreter (SLI) to join our team in New Orleans, Louisiana for the 2025–2026 school year. This is a full-time, onsite role working with a K–12 caseload, supporting students who are deaf or hard of hearing in accessing quality education and social connection.

Position Details:

• Location: New Orleans, LA

• Caseload: K–12 students

• Schedule: Full-Time, Onsite

• Contract: 2025–2026 School Year

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide interpretation between spoken English and American Sign Language (ASL) in classroom and school settings

• Support communication between students, teachers, parents, and staff

• Interpret a variety of academic and extracurricular content across grade levels

• Maintain confidentiality and adhere to professional and ethical interpreting standards

• Collaborate with educational teams to support individualized student needs

• Assist with cultural and linguistic mediation to foster student inclusion

Requirements:

• Certification by EIPA, RID, or equivalent (minimum score of 3.5 if EIPA)

• Proficiency in American Sign Language and spoken English

• High school diploma or equivalent required; associate or bachelor’s degree preferred

• Experience working with children in educational settings is a plus

• Strong interpersonal and organizational skills
