Job Description
As a School-Based SLI, you will facilitate effective communication between students who are deaf or hard of hearing and their educational teams. Responsibilities include:
Interpreting classroom instruction, discussions, and school activities
Using appropriate sign language methods (ASL, SEE, etc.) based on student needs
Supporting IEP implementation and academic engagement
Collaborating with educators and specialists to ensure inclusive learning
Maintaining confidentiality and adhering to professional interpreter standards
Requirements – Louisiana State and Federal
To be considered for this role in New Orleans, LA, candidates must meet the following:
Valid certification from EIPA (Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment), RID, or BEI
Compliance with Louisiana Department of Education interpreter qualifications
High school diploma or higher; completion of interpreter training program preferred
Ability to pass background checks and fingerprinting
Familiarity with IDEA and special education support processes
Note: Prior classroom experience is not required.
