Sign Language Interpreter (SLI) – New Orleans, LA (Onsite or Travel)

Starting at $34.00/hour – based on experience | Full-Time Contract Position

Blazer Jobs is seeking a skilled Sign Language Interpreter (SLI) to provide communication access for students in school-based settings in New Orleans, LA. This is a full-time contract position available for both onsite and travel roles. No classroom experience is required.

Job Description

As a School-Based SLI, you will facilitate effective communication between students who are deaf or hard of hearing and their educational teams. Responsibilities include:

  • Interpreting classroom instruction, discussions, and school activities

  • Using appropriate sign language methods (ASL, SEE, etc.) based on student needs

  • Supporting IEP implementation and academic engagement

  • Collaborating with educators and specialists to ensure inclusive learning

  • Maintaining confidentiality and adhering to professional interpreter standards


Requirements – Louisiana State and Federal

To be considered for this role in New Orleans, LA, candidates must meet the following:

  • Valid certification from EIPA (Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment), RID, or BEI

  • Compliance with Louisiana Department of Education interpreter qualifications

  • High school diploma or higher; completion of interpreter training program preferred

  • Ability to pass background checks and fingerprinting

  • Familiarity with IDEA and special education support processes

Note: Prior classroom experience is not required.
