Job Title: Virtual Sign Language Interpreter (SLI)
Location: Remote – Supporting School Districts in Lincoln, Nebraska
Employment Type: Full-Time or Part-Time (School Year Contract)

Job Description:
We are seeking highly qualified Virtual Sign Language Interpreters (SLIs) to provide remote interpreting services to K–12 students across school districts in Lincoln, Nebraska. This role involves working in a virtual educational environment, interpreting spoken English into American Sign Language (ASL) and vice versa, ensuring effective communication between students, teachers, and other educational staff.

Candidates must be comfortable working with a variety of age groups and educational needs, including general education and special education settings. You will be part of a collaborative educational team that values inclusion, communication access, and student success.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver real-time, accurate interpretation services between spoken English and ASL during instructional and non-instructional school activities

  • Facilitate communication in virtual classrooms, one-on-one sessions, small group activities, and school events

  • Adapt signing style and vocabulary based on student age, language proficiency, and educational context

  • Follow student IEPs and collaborate with teachers, service providers, and school staff to support each student’s communication needs

  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards as outlined by RID and educational interpreting best practices

  • Attend virtual IEP meetings or team discussions when appropriate

Work Schedule:

  • Follows standard school calendar and hours (Monday through Friday, daytime only)

  • Full-time and part-time caseloads available

  • All sessions delivered remotely using secure video conferencing platforms

Mandatory Qualifications (No Exceptions):

  • EIPA Performance Score of 4.0 or higher

  • Successful completion of the EIPA Written Test

  • High-speed internet and reliable technology to support consistent video interpretation

  • Strong command of ASL and English, both spoken and written

  • Prior experience in K–12 educational settings preferred

Applicants who do not meet the EIPA score or written test requirement will not be considered.
