Key Responsibilities:
- Provide accurate and effective sign language interpretation for students who are deaf or hard of hearing in classroom and school-related settings.
- Facilitate communication between students, educators, school staff, and peers.
- Adjust interpreting techniques to match individual student needs and classroom content.
- Deliver ASL instruction to students, educators, and/or parents to enhance language development and communication skills.
- Collaborate with special education teams and participate in the development and implementation of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
- Maintain professionalism, confidentiality, and compliance with ethical standards as outlined by RID or relevant certification bodies.
- Support student participation in academic, extracurricular, and social activities within the school environment.
Qualifications:
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in ASL Interpreting, Deaf Studies, or a related field.
- Valid certification through the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID), Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA) Level 3.5 or higher, or equivalent Florida-recognized credentials.
- Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL) and strong command of spoken and written English.
- Experience in educational settings with K-12 students preferred.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with educators, administrators, and families.
