Start Date: ASAP – June 6, 2025 Hours: Full-time, 37.5 hours per week

Caseload: Middle/High School. This position requires a teacher who is comfortable and skilled in working with a range of learning needs within a middle and/or high school setting.

Requirements:

  • Active Michigan Special Education Teacher License is required. Candidates must possess a valid and current Michigan teaching license with an endorsement in Special Education.
  • Onsite position: This role requires the teacher to work in person at the school site in Ypsilanti, MI.

Compensation:

We offer the average competitive hourly rate of $30-$45 based on experience for this contract Special Education Teacher position. Your specific hourly rate will be determined based on your years of experience, educational background, and relevant certifications.

Job Duties of a School Special Education Teacher:

As a School Special Education Teacher, your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Developing and implementing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs): Creating tailored plans based on students' unique needs, goals, and assessments in collaboration with parents, general education teachers, and other support staff.  
  • Providing direct instruction: Delivering specialized instruction in various academic and functional skill areas to individual students and small groups, utilizing evidence-based practices and differentiated strategies.
  • Assessing student progress: Regularly monitoring and evaluating student performance, collecting data, and making necessary adjustments to IEPs and instructional methods.
  • Collaborating with general education teachers: Working closely with general education teachers to ensure effective inclusion and accommodations for students with disabilities in the general curriculum.
  • Communicating with parents and guardians: Maintaining open and consistent communication regarding student progress, IEP goals, and any relevant concerns.
  • Managing a caseload of students: Organizing and maintaining student records, scheduling meetings, and ensuring compliance with all state and federal regulations.
  • Participating in IEP meetings: Leading and contributing to IEP meetings, presenting assessment data, and collaborating on the development of appropriate goals and services.
  • Providing consultation and support to school staff: Sharing expertise and strategies to support the needs of students with disabilities across the school.
  • Implementing behavior management plans: Developing and implementing positive behavior interventions and supports to address student behavioral needs.
  • Utilizing assistive technology and resources: Integrating appropriate technology and resources to enhance student learning and access to the curriculum.
