Special Education Teacher - Elmira, NY

Seeking a dedicated Special Education professional for a contract sub position in a high school Emotional Disabilities (ED) classroom, serving 11th and 12th grade students. This opportunity offers hands-on classroom experience in a supportive educational setting, contributing directly to students growth and academic success. The assignment will provide coverage for up to 12 weeks and requires a consistent onsite presence.

• Valid New York State Teaching License with a High School endorsement
• Appropriate certification for an ED classroom (Emotional Disabilities)
• Previous experience as a Special Education Teacher, particularly in high school settings
• Ability to adapt curriculum and instructional strategies for students with diverse needs
• Strong classroom management and relationship-building skills
• Commitment to positive behavioral supports and tailored student engagement

Primary responsibilities:

• Lead instruction for 11th and 12th grade students in a high school ED classroom
• Implement IEP goals, monitor student progress, and participate in IEP meetings
• Collaborate with other teachers, paraprofessionals, and school staff to create a supportive learning environment
• Maintain accurate records of student performance, attendance, and behavior
• Serve either as the lead teacher or as a long-term substitute, depending on classroom needs
• Foster an inclusive and encouraging atmosphere for all learners
