Step into a rewarding opportunity working with elementary-aged students in a self-contained Autism classroom. This full-time, contract role involves providing specialized instruction and behavioral support for students with Autism Spectrum Disorder, helping them achieve academic, communication, and life skills within a structured, nurturing environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop, implement, and monitor Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) tailored to each student's needs
  • Deliver direct instruction aligned with state standards and individual goals
  • Employ evidence-based strategies designed for Autism Spectrum Disorder
  • Use positive behavior interventions, behavior intervention plans (BIPs), and PBIS systems
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team including speech-language pathologists, occupational therapists, psychologists, and behavior specialists
  • Supervise and guide paraprofessional staff supporting the classroom
  • Collect and analyze student progress data, ensuring all compliance documentation is accurately maintained
  • Foster key areas of student growth, including communication, social skills, self-regulation, and independent living skills
  • Promote a safe, engaging, and supportive classroom atmosphere

Qualifications:

  • Active Virginia Special Education Teaching License or eligibility to obtain one
  • Experience creating and executing IEPs
  • Strong grasp of special education documentation and compliance practices
  • Proven classroom management and behavior support abilities
  • Demonstrated teamwork and communication skills, particularly when working with families and multidisciplinary teams

Preferred Experience:

  • Previous teaching experience with students on the Autism Spectrum
  • Background working in self-contained classroom settings
  • Familiarity with ABA techniques, structured teaching, visual schedules, and communication systems (e.g., social stories, PECS, AAC)
  • Experience supporting students with complex needs and utilizing crisis prevention strategies
