This contract position offers an opportunity to support young learners throughout the 2026-2027 school year, working closely with students who benefit from resource/inclusion support or in a self-contained classroom, based on the schools current needs. Qualifications and Desired Background:

  • Active Rhode Island Department of Education Special Education license in the appropriate grade band (Early Childhood, Elementary, or Secondary)
  • Certified in, or willing to complete within one year of hire, Rhode Island Structured Literacy proficiency to meet Right to Read Act requirements
  • Previous experience as a Special Education Teacher in an elementary school setting is highly valued
  • Strong skills in collaborating with general education teachers, support staff, and families
  • Ability to adapt lessons and instructional strategies for a diverse range of learner abilities

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide instruction and support for students with mild-to-moderate disabilities, either in a resource/inclusion capacity or a self-contained classroom
  • Develop and implement IEPs, monitoring progress toward established goals
  • Work collaboratively with classroom teachers to adapt curriculum, modifying assignments as needed
  • Evaluate student performance, maintaining detailed documentation and progress reports
  • Foster a positive, inclusive, and safe learning environment that encourages growth and independence
