Be a catalyst for growth and empowerment as a Special Education Teacher in an elementary self-contained Autism classroom. This is an outstanding contract opportunity for a compassionate educator with expertise in supporting students with Autism Spectrum Disorder. Youll work in a full-time, school-based role, starting in the 26/27 academic year. The classroom environment is highly structured, fostering academic, social, and adaptive skill-building for elementary-aged learners with a range of communication, sensory, and behavioral needs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) tailored to each student's unique strengths and goals
  • Deliver specialized instruction aligned with state standards and student needs
  • Use evidence-based strategies specifically designed for students with Autism Spectrum Disorder
  • Employ positive behavior interventions and supports, and implement behavior intervention plans as required
  • Collaborate closely with speech-language pathologists, occupational therapists, psychologists, and behavior specialists to provide comprehensive support
  • Supervise and guide paraprofessionals within the classroom
  • Collect and analyze progress data, ensuring all compliance documentation is accurate and up to date
  • Inspire communication, social, self-regulation, and daily living skills development
  • Maintain a safe, structured, and motivating learning environment

Required Qualifications:

  • Active Virginia Special Education Teaching License or eligibility to obtain licensure
  • Proficiency in developing and implementing IEPs
  • Strong understanding of special education compliance and documentation
  • Effective classroom management and ability to provide positive behavioral support
  • Collaborative spirit for working with multidisciplinary teams and families

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with students with Autism Spectrum Disorder
  • Prior experience in self-contained special education classrooms
  • Familiarity with ABA principles, structured teaching, visual supports, social stories, or functional communication systems
  • Crisis prevention/de-escalation training
