As a Teacher of the Visually Impaired, you will provide specialized instruction and support to students with visual impairments, ensuring their access to education through adapted materials, technology, and tailored strategies. You will collaborate with general education teachers, special education teams, and families to create an inclusive environment for students.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide individualized instruction for students with visual impairments.
- Develop and implement IEPs (Individualized Education Plans) for visually impaired students.
- Assess students’ needs and provide appropriate instructional and environmental modifications.
- Create and deliver lessons using adapted materials and assistive technology.
- Train and support school staff and families in the use of accessible materials and technology.
- Monitor and track students’ progress and adjust strategies as needed.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure each student’s educational needs are met.
- Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current on best practices and new technologies.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Special Education or related field.
- Certification in Teaching the Visually Impaired (TVI).
- Experience working with students with visual impairments preferred.
- Knowledge of Braille and other assistive technologies for visually impaired students.
- Ability to work effectively with students, parents, and educational teams.
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
