Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) to join our team in Eugene, Oregon. The TVI will provide specialized instruction and support to students with visual impairments, ensuring they have equal access to education and the tools needed to succeed. Key Responsibilities

  • Provide direct and consultative services to students with visual impairments in various educational settings.
  • Develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and accommodations based on student needs.
  • Teach Braille, assistive technology, orientation and mobility concepts, and adaptive strategies.
  • Collaborate with teachers, therapists, parents, and school staff to support student learning and accessibility.
  • Assess students’ functional vision and learning needs and recommend appropriate instructional methods.
  • Train school staff and families on best practices for supporting visually impaired students.
  • Advocate for students by ensuring they have access to appropriate materials, technology, and classroom modifications.
  • Maintain accurate records and progress reports in compliance with state and district guidelines.
 
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Special Education or related field with a focus on Visual Impairments.
    • Oregon License
  • Oregon teaching certification with a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) endorsement (required).
  • Experience working with students who have visual impairments (preferred).
  • Knowledge of Braille, assistive technology, and accessibility tools.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.

  • Familiarity with special education laws, accommodations, and instructional strategies.
  • Willingness to participate in ongoing training and professional development.
