About the Role:

The Teacher for the Visually Impaired will play a key role in supporting students with visual impairments by providing specialized instruction, adapting curriculum materials, and promoting independence in both academic and functional areas. You’ll collaborate closely with school staff, students, and families to help ensure a safe, inclusive, and effective learning environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Deliver direct and consultative services to students with visual impairments as outlined in their IEPs

  • Develop accessible instructional materials using Braille, large print, and assistive technology

  • Maintain accurate documentation and progress reports in accordance with district guidelines

  • Collaborate with educators, orientation and mobility specialists, and families to support student development

  • Ensure compliance with district, state, and federal special education regulations

Qualifications:

  • Valid Texas Teaching Certificate with endorsement in Visual Impairment

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Special Education or a related field

  • Experience working with students who are blind or visually impaired preferred

  • Proficiency in Braille and knowledge of assistive technology for low-vision students

  • Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills
